Road Sloane Square improvements

Kensington & Chelsea are consulting on a redesign of Sloane Square to provide more pedestrian space.

The plan that RB Kensington & Chelsea are proposing is to remove the gyratory system and replace it with a staggered crossroads.

View a PDF plan of the proposed changes.

Access to Holbein Place on the southeast corner of the square would be removed, creating a large pedestrian area on the eastern side of the square, outside the Underground station.

A smaller pedestrian space would be created on the western side of the square.

The right turn from Cliveden Place to Sloane Street would be banned to create a long enough pedestrian crossing phase at the traffic lights.

The plan would have a beneficial impact on the pedestrian environment of the square; however, it would require that bus stops for services to and from Chelsea were moved a couple of minutes' walk away, to the King's Road outside Peter Jones.

Anyone can respond to the consultation. More information is available from RB Kensington & Chelsea.

This is part of the 100 Public Spaces programme which will also see other key spaces around London transformed, including Exhibition Road.
