The last single carriageway section of the main route between Woolwich and the M25 will be dualled.
Work is scheduled to start in June 2005 for completion by 2007.
This is the last section of single carriageway on the A205/A2017 route known as the South Thames Development Route, which links Woolwich via Thamesmead and Erith to the M25 at Junction 1a.
Important structural work includes replacement of the railway bridge.
The new road will have a 40mph speed limit.
Transport for London is putting forward £21m of funding, to be matched by central government, for the dualling of the A206 Thames Road in Bexley.
